Why Washington springs leaks in election season

GOP lawmakers said Tuesday they don't believe Obama's denials of White House-sanctioned leaks about US efforts to disrupt Iran's nuclear program. Leaking for political purposes has a storied past in Washington.

By David Grant,?Staff writer / June 26, 2012

From left, Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, take turns at the microphones at a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, to assert their belief that President Obama's administration has orchestrated disclosure of classified information for political gain.

They may not be yelling at President Obama amid his State of the Union message, as Rep. Joe Wilson (R) of South Carolina famously did, but that was the message Senate Republicans had for the president Tuesday over his recent denials that members of the White House were behind leaks of sensitive intelligence information.

While leaks occur almost perpetually?in Washington, an election season that has banished most other substantive items from Congress?s plate makes leaks prime territory to score political points.

Disclosure of secret information about Iran?s nuclear program and American covert efforts to disrupt it, among a handful of other intelligence issues, has driven members on both sides of the aisle up the wall with fury.

Confronted with concerns about disclosures at a press conference in early June, Mr. Obama told reporters that allegations that the White House ?would purposely release classified national security information is offensive.?

At a press conference Tuesday, Republican senators were having nothing of it. Sen. John McCain (R) of Arizona quoted an extended excerpt? from New York Times reporter David Sanger?s recent book, "Confront and Conceal,"? that reports senior White House intelligence officials disclosing intelligence relating to Iran?s nuclear program.

?Obviously the notion that his White House would purposely release classified national information is ?offensive? is contradicted by the facts,? Senator McCain said. Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, the Senate intelligence committee?s top-ranking Republican, said one covert action program revealed in Mr. Sanger?s book was so protected that it was news to the intelligence world?s congressional overseers.

?We as members of the Intelligence Committee can't even confirm whether these programs exist, and yet you have the national security adviser talking about a covert action program" to a reporter, Senator Chambliss said.

Republicans are not the only ones expressing concern. Even before Obama?s news conference, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D) of California, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said in a statement that she was ?deeply disturbed by the continuing leaks of classified information to the media.? She subsequently sent a letter to Obama charging that "disclosures of this type endanger American lives and undermine America?s national security.?

TSA Spills Ashes Of Passenger's Grandfather On Airport Floor (VIDEO)

A man's attempt to bring home his grandfather's ashes has ended with those remains spread across an airport floor after they were spilled by a TSA agent, reports RTV 6 in Indianapolis.

John Gross was heading home to Indianapolis from Florida through Orlando International Airport. He had with him a small, sealed jar marked "human remains."

Gross asked agents to be careful, but one opened the jar and began sifting through its contents before spilling most of them on the floor.

"She didn't apologize. She started laughing. I was on my hands and knees picking up bone fragments. I couldn't pick up all, everything that was lost," he said to RTV 6.

According to the TSA website: "Passengers are allowed to carry a crematory container as part of their carry-on luggage, but the container must pass through the X-ray machine. Out of respect to the deceased and their family and friends, under no circumstances will an officer open the container even if the passenger requests this be done."

The TSA told Local 6 Orlando in a statement that "TSA recognizes the importance of treating human remains with respect and dignity...Under TSA policy, under no circumstance would the container holding the remains be opened. We are looking further into this complaint."

Colon cancer is quickly gaining pace in Kuwait | Kuwait Times

health26 Colon cancer is quickly gaining pace in KuwaitKUWAIT: ?It is very difficult to ignore the facts,? said Dr. Abdullah Al Haddad, Specialist of General Surgery and Colon and Rectum surgery at Dar Al Shifa Hospital. ?Colon cancer is quickly gaining pace as the number one type of cancer found in Kuwait.? ?A patient starts off with fear of diagnosis, and quickly panics or loses hope right after they discover the truth,? he continued. ?What usually works to get them through is by understanding exactly what is happening to them, and the options they have for treatment.?

What is cancer staging all about?
Generally, doctors use staging as a way to assess the required treatment by defining first the extent to which the cancer has spread. Factors taken into account include the size of the tumor, penetration level, effect on adjacent o as well as distant organs, and number of lymph nodes.

On diagnosis & treatment
In terms of diagnosis, the gastroenterologists report is very crucial, as it mainly is used to accurately allocate the lesion or cancer. If the patient has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer, then a CT or MRI will be done before surgery. Apart from colonoscopy and surgery, the other existing diagnostic tools that can be used are virtual colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy, or barium enema.

Most colon cancer cases require surgery, after which the doctor can assess whether the patient requires chemotherapy. The only exception to a change of treatment order is in the case of metastases being present. For rectal cancer, depending on the depth of the tumor and the close proximity to the anus, the decision will be made in terms of giving chemotherapy or radiotherapy before the surgery.

?Here at Dar Al Shifa Hospital we understand that a fundamental comfort factor during a time like this is being sure that treatment is being conducted by the best talent available; and so it is our first priority.? There are a number of advanced methods used in surgical intervention, such as the conducting endoscopy and removal of the tumor through the rectum ? a procedure which is unique to Dar Al Shifa Hospital. Patients usually return to practicing their normal routines within a few days post-operation.

Life after surgery
Post treatment, most people lead normal lives. The rate at which recovery happens depends on a number of factors, mainly starting with the level of advancement in surgery, as well as the patient?s adopted lifestyle after surgery. Patients are advised to do a blood test every three months for 2 years and go for a check-up every 6 months after their surgeries.

?It is important to conquer the fear that comes with these situations, which is achieved by a acquiring knowledge on the matter? continued Dr. Al Haddad. ?At Dar Al Shifa Hospital the doctors are very diligent at helping our patients by explaining the process and what comes with it, ensuring that they feel safe to ask whatever questions they might have.?

Spain's Alonso delivers decisive headed goal

By GRAHAM DUNBAR

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 5:24 p.m. ET June 23, 2012

DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) -Spain's Xabi Alonso joins Cristiano Ronaldo at the head of the class in the European Championship quarterfinals.

At Euro 2012, where 20 headed goals have been scored, Alonso and Portugal star Ronaldo showed perfect technique to send their teams into the semifinals.

Alonso's header to take the lead in a 2-0 victory over France on Saturday was almost identical to Ronaldo's goal that knocked out the Czech Republic on Thursday.

The Spain midfielder took up a good back-post position to meet a cross with an angled run into the goalmouth.

Then, with feet planted and a steady gaze on the ball, Alonso headed it powerfully down and bouncing back across the wrongfooted goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris.

For Spain to win with a header goes against type for a team whose short, neat passing typically keeps the ball skimming across the turf.

Especially so for Alonso who, on his 100th appearance for Spain, was asked when he last scored with his head. Pausing for several seconds and stroking his beard, Alonso was befuddled by the question and couldn't find the answer.

"You'll have to look in Wikipedia," the 30-year-old Real Madrid player said, suggesting it might have been during his time with Real Sociedad, which he left for Liverpool in 2004.

Yet Alonso's rarity in scoring headers fitted perfectly with one of the strongest scoring trends in Poland and Ukraine.

In 27 matches, 20 of the 69 goals - well above the scoring average of recent World Cups - have come from scorers using their head. The previous record for a Euro finals tournament was 17.

Why is such an old-fashioned football skill making a comeback at Euro 2012?

UEFA technical director Andy Roxburgh has declined to call it a trend based on a relatively small sample size.

Certainly, UEFA President Michel Platini believes attacking players have more chance to reach the ball if defenders are denied their sly arts of shirt-pulling and nudging.

UEFA's championing of additional assistant referees beside each goal has apparently deterred defenders from fouling, for fear of conceding a penalty or being shown a yellow card.

Still, Alonso and Ronaldo scored from open play, using their superior wits, skill and positional sense to make the difference.

"The way we play, you get a bit of freedom to rove," Alonso said. "I saw the space and I knew I had to go for it."

The standard of defending at Euro 2012 can also be questioned, with a succession of goals in early matches arising from moves down the attacking team's right flank.

It took just 17 minutes of play in the opening game in Warsaw for Poland forward Robert Lewandowski to place a bouncing header into the Greek net and open the Euro 2012 goal account.

When co-host nation Ukraine entered the action three days later, iconic forward Andriy Shevchenko twice stooped to score and conquer Sweden in a 2-1, comeback victory.

Shevchenko showed a true striker's classic sense of timing to make perfect runs to the front post, from a right-flank cross and a left-flank corner.

That exposed a weakness in the Swedish defense which England's old-fashioned No. 9 Andy Carroll also exploited.

Carroll soared majestically into the air, unmarked and near the penalty spot, to meet a driven crossed ball by Steven Gerrard and guide his header into the bottom corner of the net.

In another throwback to 1950s fashion, Mario Gomez of Germany used his powerful neck muscles to generate speed on the ball, and score the only goal against Portugal in his team's opening group match.

Portugal also conceded twice to headers by Denmark forward Nicklas Bendtner in a group match before winning 3-2.

If doubts persist about Ronaldo's teammates' aerial ability, then perhaps Alonso is the man to take advantage. Spain and Portugal meet in a semifinal in Donetsk on Wednesday.

The planer was attached to the stand, but I barely have enough room to pass gas, so it{the stand} will either be disassembled & stored or passed onto someone who can use it. He had no idea what the clamps were used for, but he picked up both the 32"36"? & the 50" for $5.00..after I explained the clamp uses we decided he should keep one for himself{besides, I told him that I knew where he lived if I needed the larger one }...He wouldn't say what he paid for the planer, he just smiled and said he was still "way ahead"...great to have good neighbors, or good to have great neighbors, either/or, I'm blessed to have quite a few on our little street!

I don't know much about this planer except it works fine, it seems. Though I will be making it a permanent home of some sort with in-feed & out-feed tables, currently set-up, it leaves about 2-3 inches of snipe, but hopefully some fine tuning and the possibility of some of you having a tip or two to share will square away most of the bugs I might encounter.

Anyways...sorry for rambling, I'm still giddy over this....hope you all have a great weekend, and be sure to at least wave hi to your neighbors...you just never know...

Syrian civilians hit hard by spreading violence

KHAN SHEIKHOUN, Syria (AP) ? Her daughter, 8, often hides in a closet, terrified of flying bullets. Her son, 6, still asks for his father months after he turned up in a morgue. And the family has little income because her brother-in-law was killed too.

Umm Moussa's extended family is smaller now. They live day to day in a house of simply furnished concrete rooms around an empty courtyard in this dusty city in northern Syria.

"I'm always worried that after all I've lost, I'll lose something else," said the thin, shy 27-year-old, leafing through photos of her dead husband.

As Syria's 15-month-old uprising has morphed from a popular call for reform into an armed insurgency, the country's civilians have paid the highest price.

Most of the more than 14,000 people activists say have been killed are civilians. Countless others have watched their livelihoods collapse, their neighborhoods turn to battlegrounds and their friends and relatives die or disappear.

EDITOR'S NOTE ? Journalist Ben Hubbard was part of a three-member Associated Press team that spent two weeks with rebels in northern Syria, collecting on-the-ground information on the revolt against President Bashar Assad ? the longest and deadliest uprising of the Arab Spring.

___

During two weeks in northern Syria, three Associated Press journalists met scores of civilians whose lives have been altered by the conflict: students who cannot cross army checkpoints to reach schools and universities; merchants whose suppliers have stopped delivering; and farmers who left land fallow because they can no longer afford diesel for irrigation pumps.

The international community has harshly condemned President Bashar Assad's regime for its role in the violence, endorsing a plan by U.N. envoy Kofi Annan to try to end it.

But that plan has fallen far short ? as is obvious here in Khan Sheikhoun, a city of 80,000 people surrounded by wheat fields and orchards on the country's main north-south highway.

Six military checkpoints ring the city, housing snipers who fire on civilians and rebels alike. Troops block roads to the fields and sometimes set them ablaze, meaning farmers can smell the smoke of their crops burning but cannot fight the flames.

Regime forces have also seized the state hospital and other downtown buildings, parking armored vehicles out front and piling sandbags on the roofs. Residents call the shuttered central boulevard the "street of death" because so many people have been shot there.

Rebels run the rest of the city and have mined its entries. They blast army vehicles passing on the highway with rocket-propelled grenades, and patrol in two armored SUVs that they captured.

They also run a clinic and hang out in a former security building. A bust of the former president, Assad's late father Hafez, is positioned near the entrance, defaced with devilish horns sprouting from the head.

The regime shells occasionally, and the rebels clash with those manning the checkpoints daily.

One sweltering afternoon, rebels blasted machine guns around the corners of buildings while sniper fire chipped at the streets and walls around them.

Standing at the door to his house, Mohammed al-Safa, 24, listed neighbors struck by those snipers: the family across the street who'd abandoned their home; the 10-year-old girl paralyzed by a bullet in the back; the elderly man shot dead on his roof while adjusting his satellite dish.

"May God protect you!" al-Safa's mother yelled as rebels rushed down their alley.

"The Free Army is all we have to protect us," al-Safa said. "No one else can."

The media team for the city's rebels, now based in a former office of Assad's ruling Baath party, says the numbers show the regime's disregard for civilians: Of the more than 130 people killed in the uprising, only 31 were fighters, said activist Hisham Nijim.

When asked about the Annan plan and the nearly 300 observers sent to monitor it, residents recall "the massacre."

On May 15, U.N. observers left a security building, walked past a number of sand berms and through a rowdy anti-regime protest about 100 meters (yards) away. Apparently feeling protected by the observers, the crowd inched toward the soldiers guarding the building, chanting, "The people want to execute Bashar!" and "Traitors! The Syrian army are traitors!" according to a video of the event.

Minutes later, the soldiers opened fire in a deafening roar, and protesters dropped in the street as the crowd scrambled for cover.

Nijim said 44 people were killed. Photos of 32 of them, including young children and old men, hang in the media office.

"Annan's plan is worthless," Nijim said. "It is impossible that this regime will give up power peacefully. It will only go under force of arms."

The Syrian government rarely comments on its military's actions. It has never acknowledged popular calls for reform and blames the uprising on foreign-backed gangs and terrorists seeking to weaken the country.

The troubles for Umm Moussa's family began in February 2011, when her husband's youngest brother was arrested in a cafe for chatting online about the uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt. When those uprisings inspired Syrians to protest a month later, his arrest pushed the two older brothers to join.

Umm Moussa's husband, Mohammed Tilawi, became a leader, drawing banners and outfitting a pickup truck with huge speakers to blast anti-regime chants, she said.

Security forces attacked the protests and raided activist homes, killing four people on one day in June. More people joined, and some sought arms.

"Anyone who had a weapon ? a hunting rifle, a Kalashnikov, even a club ? came out to defend the city," activist Osama Abu Homam said.

That month, Mohammed's other brother, Mukhlis, was shot and killed while manning a rebel checkpoint. The family never found out who shot him.

Mohammed sold his brother's car to buy a rifle. Umm Moussa and their four children saw him less and less as the clashes grew more frequent.

"We often fled the house because we were afraid they'd arrest us to get him to turn himself in," Umm Moussa said. She last saw him alive in September: Gunfire broke out near a protest, and he took his gun and left.

They found his body days later in a morgue in Hama, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) away. The handwritten hospital report she keeps in her pocket said he'd been shot through the gut and that state security had delivered the body.

It didn't explain his broken jaw, nor the large bruises on his face and around his groin. The family suspects he was tortured.

The younger brother was finally released without trial in February 2012. He was shocked when he got home.

"I was surprised to learn how many people had been killed, and I had to get used to life without my brothers," said Abdel-Razaq, 32.

Since then, he has become a cameraman, filming protests and violence to post on the Internet. In April, shrapnel from a shell attack sliced through his stomach. He has a pink, four-inch scar over his navel from the operation to remove the shrapnel.

The family struggles without his brothers' incomes. Before the uprising, Mohammed had a fiberglass workshop that made sinks. Muklis was a blacksmith. Now both shops are closed, and Abdel-Razaq cannot go back to Dubai, where he worked as a cook before the uprising. His mother, 65, wears black daily and cries when she mentions her sons.

Umm Moussa struggles to comfort her children when gunfire breaks out. She worries when her 12-year-old boy, Moussa, sneaks out to attend protests. She chose to give only her nickname, Arabic for "Mother of Moussa," fearing retribution by Assad's regime.

But she also hopes the uprising will give them better lives.

"There is no way this regime can stay after all the people it has killed," she said. "That would be the biggest crime."

With Germany finally on board, EU can now go beyond just cuts

After weeks of pressure from other EU members, German Chancellor Merkel relented on her austerity-only prescription and acquiesced to a stimulus package for the eurozone crisis.

Leaders of the eurozone?s four biggest economies ? Germany, France, Italy, and Spain ? agreed today to jumpstart growth of the besieged 17-member group with a roughly 130-billion-euro ($163 billion) package.

?I absolutely agree with what everyone else here has said ? to devote 1 percent of the GDP of the European area additionally to growth, to efficiency in growth, and to investment,? German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in a press conference in Rome after the meeting.?

The comments mark a turning point in discussions; until today, she resisted pressure from the other three countries?to budge on her austerity-only recipe for exiting the crisis.?The meeting, dubbed the ?big four mini-summit,? was geared toward building consensus ahead of next week?s European Union summit. And while many of the details are still pending, the fact that Germany agreed to the French-proposed growth stimulus package is a good sign.

As Chancellor Merkel said herself, ?That is the genuine signal that we need.? French President Fran?ois Hollande also highlighted the breakthrough. ?Who would have imagined a few weeks ago that [the issue of] growth would be on the agenda of [next week?s] summit?"

The pressure mounted on Merkel after the International Monetary Fund issued a blunt and forceful statement yesterday ? apparently directed at Merkel ? that made an urgent call for more fiscal integration.?It also supported issuing eurozone debt in order to pool together risks and in doing so lower the lending rate for the troubled countries, while increasing it for fiscally conservatives.?

?The euro area crisis has reached a critical stage,? the IMF statement read. ?Despite extraordinary policy actions, bank and sovereign markets in many parts of the euro area remain under acute stress, raising questions about the viability of the monetary union itself. A determined and forceful move toward a more complete economic monetary union, particularly a banking union and more fiscal integration, is needed to arrest the decline in confidence engulfing the region.?

Meanwhile, Spain, at the heart of the current market uncertainty, remained opaque about the extent of its financial needs. It has publicly acknowledged that it will need a bailout for its capital-deprived banking sector, but it has been evasive about just how large that bailout needs to be. An independent audit of Spanish banks yesterday estimated the financial sector will need between 51 billion euros ($64 billion) and 62 billion euros ($78 billion) to survive the most adverse conditions.?

The 16 other eurozone countries, especially the German-led fiscal conservative bloc, pressured Madrid this week to make an official request for part or all of the 100 billion euro ($125 billion) rescue it was offered by the eurozone on June 10.

Spanish Finance Minister Luis de Guindos, speaking from Luxembourg after meeting with his eurozone counterparts, postponed the official request, which was largely expected today, until June 25. He also warned that the amount, terms, and list of banks being bailed out would not be disclosed until July 9.

Luxembourg?s prime minister and head of the Eurogroup, Jean-Claude Juncker, had asked Spain to make its request today. Mr. Guindos took a swipe at him, denying there was any tension but said ?sometimes Mr. Juncker needs to have things explained."

The 50th Foot and the Invasion of Galacia, January 1809

The year is 1809. Sir John Moore's army is in full retreat, as Napoleon's forces advance inexorably through Spain.. Pushed into Portugal, Moore and his men fight a valiant rearguard action, despite numerous unrest and discipline problems in many of his regiments. The winter is the hardest the peninsula has seen in decades, heavy snows blight the mountains, an insidious cold cutting through an army clothed for a summer campaign.

Moore's men have no boots, the leather collapsing like the dead on the long march. The cold seeps into their powder, and their muskets won't fire when the French cavalry come scything after them. The British have lost, retreating in ignominy to their ships at Corunna, to sail home, perhaps never to return.

Letter found on the corpse of a teenage Ensign, dated January 1809

Dearest Mother,

My Regiment, the 50th Foot has come under hard times of late. Food is scarce, and the men are restless. Many say that the war is lost, and that the French will catch us and kill us all. I do not believe this, as our army is the best in Europe, and many of our soldiers have seen combat in India, where the men are much fiercer than the French.

Tonight, the fellows and I are billeted in a tavern, along with some surly officers from the 95th Rifles. I saw a Lieutenant carrying a rifle like a common soldier. Can you believe it, mother? The situation is dire. There is little food, but plenty to drink. I can hear the men from third battalion drinking in the stable. We have plenty of powder too. Colonel Smythe says we are not far from Corunna, so I should be home soon.

It occurs to me that yesterday was my 17th birthday. I fear I have lost count of the days, and the time, since the watch you and father bought me stopped over a month ago. I still have my sabre, and the brace of pistols. I hope they serve me well when we stop for battle.

The candle is dying, so I must stop now. I shall give this letter to the next galloper I see. Hope to be home soon,

Your Dearest Edward.

Report given by Major Lukas Ebbe, of the King's German Legion, 3rd Hussars

It was early afternoon when the French attacked. The 50th Foot, and a battalion from the 95th Rifles were billeted in a tavern and farmstead on the valley floor, and had just begun to march off, when our scouts spotted a company of Chasseurs and Lancers following the same road, at quite a pace.

Wanting to save the vulnerable infantry from this encroachment by the enemy, I rallied 1st and 2nd squadron, and brought them down hard on the flank of the Lancers, managing to drive off a fair few of them, with minimal casualties on our part. We wheeled behind a small copse of bare trees, preparing to charge the Chasseurs, but they managed to draw carbines, and Captain Ekehart and I concluded that the risk to our own men would be too great to attempt a charge.

We followed a smaller carter's track to rejoin the road ahead of the allied infantry, who had begun to march at this point. I warned Colonel Smythe of the 50th about the Chasseurs to his rear, but he ignored my advice to march with a rearguard, preferring to press on in a column until dark.

We had reached a bridge over an unmarked river, where Smythe elected to rest his contingent for half an hour or so. I sent out scouts into the surrounding countryside, to gather food for the horses, and something for ourselves. I was out ranging with Captain Ekehart when the news of the attack reached us.

I arrived just in time to see the 50th form a square in the face of a squadron of Polish Lancers, a rattle of musketry driving them back to reform. Before I could bring the 3rd Hussars into assist, we were attacked by a second squadron of lancers, supported by a company of light dragoons. This fighting kept us from engaging the two galloper guns that were supporting theChasseurs from the morning, which set up on the English flank.

Savaged by round and canister shot, the 50th broke, and fled towards the hills, with many of their number being cut down by both Lancer and Chasseur. By the time we had beaten off the lancers and dragoons, all of our companies had suffered significant losses, and it was all we could do to retire. I do believe that some survivors of the 50th made it into the hills. May God have mercy on their souls.

This roleplay will chart your progress as a group of British soldiers from the 50th Foot, in the wake of their defeat at the unnamed river crossing. Feel free to go to town on the background of your soldier, embellishing the reasons why he was joined (Or was forced) into service.

The 50th Foot is an illustrious regiment, known as the Queen's Own within the British Army. Recruiters would wander from town to town across the countryside, giving out free drinks to every man who took the King's Shilling. The morning after, while still in a drunker stupor, they would be pressed into marching order, and driven off into some barracks, to receive the training that would mould them into the finest infantry in the world.

But even the finest infantry can be beaten, and at the unnamed crossing, your regiment has been scattered, it's officers spitted on French lances, and many of the sergeants responsible for keeping rogues like you in line have been torn apart by cannon-fire.

Forced into the hills by cavalry, you all ponder your next move.

Home Repairing Ideas ~ Home Improvement - Refurbishment and ...

As energy costs continue to rise, there are many things you can do to increase energy efficiency in your home through home repair. There is much more emphasis these days on green living. There are many reasons to review your energy expenditures in your home and make home repairs to increase energy efficiency.
Cutting energy usage in your home is great for your finances and the planet. The first thing you want to do is conduct a home energy audit to determine where home repairs are needed. Once you have identified where you can make improvements, there are easy steps to take.
Home repair to make things more energy efficient in your home can start with lighting. Using energy efficient bulbs, or LED lighting,? can save an immense amount of money in your electrical bill. Changing lighting can be done by either changing out the bulbs for compact fluorescent bulbs or installing LED lights; you can reduce your energy use by 75%. The other option is to lower the wattage you are using in lamps and fixtures.
Sealing air leaks is a home repair that will save you a lot over time. By lowering the number of drafts in your home, you can effectively decrease your heating bill by 25% or more. Air leaks happen at doors, windows, air conditioning units, electrical outlets, lighting fixtures and a variety of other places in the home. These leaks can be easily fixed by adding caulking or better insulation around the windows and doors. The most prominent area for air leakage is in your attic.? Everywhere a wall meets, or a wire or pipe is run there is a chance for air to leave the home.? Keeping the air you pay to cool or heat inside the home is the most important home repair you can make.
Solar water heating installers are another area in which home repair can effectively decrease the levels of energy produced in your home. This is where a water heater that uses renewable energy can be a big benefit. These run on solar panels and heat water using the sun. Water heaters are the second largest expense regarding your energy bill.
Another home repair to consider is replacing the heating and cooling systems in your home. Anything that is older than 15 years is very inefficient. New energy efficient systems can save you a great deal of money. Sealing and insulating ducts will also help reduce energy costs. Adding programmable thermostats can help to reduce the levels of heating and cooling the home.??
